FMCG is the fourth largest sector in Indian economy and HPC is the
leading segment accounting for 50% of the overall market. The size of
the Indian FMCG industry is estimated at USD 49 billion in 2016 and
expected to reach USD 103.7 billion by 2020 at CARG of 20.6%.
The recent reduction of GST to 18% by the government in detergents &
home care products indicates support and their positive intent. In the
medium term, a GST rate of 12% will drive growth to double digits and
increase the revenue collection for the government.
Growing awareness, easier access, digital marketing and e-commerce,
growth momentum in rural markets & changing lifestyles have been the
key drivers for the sector. The HPC industry however, faces several
challenges in the areas of sustainability in production, formulations, safe
use of ingredients and at packaging fronts. It is in these challenging
times that the 5 th ISDC conference was held at Goa with the Theme:
“Transformation – A New Normal.” The three day event took place at
Hotel Goa Marriott Resort, Panji, Goa from December 10-12, 2017.
The event was supported by members of International Network of
Cleaning Product Association (INCPA), Asia Oceanic Soaps &
Detergents Association Committees (AOSDAC) and Soap & Detergents
Associations from West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat and
Chattisgarh.
The inaugural function was held on December 10 th at 6.00 pm and was
followed by felicitation of 5 Iconic companies and 5 Distinguished
leaders from the HPC industry for their contribution to the industry. The
two day business conference and exhibition was held on December 11 &
12 and was organized to facilitate interaction between the HPC industry,
National and International players (from over 20 countries) who
deliberated on the opportunities and challenges presented in emerging
markets. There were 6 Keynotes + 15 speakers who shared their views
with the delegates.
The event on day two – December 11 th - besides discussing the
dynamics of the HPC industry covered special sessions on
“Sustainability, Wellness & Innovations” that focussed on topics of
sustainable growth, biodiversity, natural and sensory drivers for wellness
and innovative surfactants.
The day three – December 12 th – of the event focussed on challenges
and opportunities, technical developments in personal care ingredients,
innovations in packaging as well as regional dynamics and future trends.
Twenty one eminent speakers from the HPC industry presented their
views.
The event was attended by around 300 delegates who also got time for
networking with the industry leaders at the Expo held along with the
conference. The expo showcased the exhibits by the leading players in
the HPC industry.
